REX portfolio Expansion

E-T-A’s REX system is now approved for use in ATEX Zone 2 hazardous locations. It offers a wide range of modules for different applications. The system includes standard devices with signalling contacts and intelligent bus controllers for connecting superordinate control systems.

Solutions for hazardous locations

With the REX system’s ATEX Zone 2 approval, E-T-A is responding to the expanding range of applications. In the past, these devices were used in the chemical and petrochemical industries. Due to changing energy generation, new applications are developing in renewable energy and hydrogen production. With the decentralised approach, control cabinets are often moved into potentially explosive areas, which requires changes to the electrical supply. The requirements in this area are significantly higher than for standard control cabinet solutions. In hazardous locations, circuit breakers must disconnect load circuits without arcing. The REX22D circuit protector’s measure the flowing current and automatically disconnects the load circuit.

The REX portfolio: Maximum flexibility

The REX system includes many different modules, providing a comprehensive toolbox for the customer's wide-ranging applications. From standard devices with signalling contacts that indicate overcurrent or short circuit events, to intelligent bus controllers that connect seamlessly with higher-level control systems and offer full transparency, the REX system covers the entire range of possible applications.

Easy installation without additional accessories

With its modular design, the REX system provides flexible and customized 24 V DC power distribution in hazardous locations. The central supply module delivers power to the system, supporting a maximum operating current of 40 A. The rear connector arm links the circuit protectors and distributes power throughout the system—eliminating the need for additional components like busbars or bridges. Engineers can easily configure the setup by connecting circuit protectors and power distribution modules directly to the supply module. Circuit protectors are available in single- or two-channel versions, with fixed or adjustable current ratings to meet a variety of application needs.

Increased transparency through data transmission

The bus controllers record the circuit protectors measuring values and status information and transmit them to a superordinate control system. This enables remote access to the entire REX system, which helps system operators detect changes in the current consumption of the connected loads and take appropriate countermeasures. The devices can be fully customized, for example the rated current and a warning threshold. This warning threshold can be set depending on the rated current and signals overcurrent both at the device itself and via a warning message to the superordinate control system. This gives maintenance staff information about changing conditions at an early stage and allows them to initiate countermeasures.

E-T-A’s REX system delivers a compact, high-performance solution for power distribution and protection that is designed to meet the stringent demands of Zone 2 hazardous areas.
